2nd Grade Spelling

The 2nd Grade Connect Spelling Course includes 30 units designed to build on first grade skills, giving the students the background knowledge to comfortably tackle most spelling words, even words they’ve never seen. This also enhances their ability to write creatively.

Second grade word lists include diphthongs which are a challenge for second graders, but need to be memorized. Also included are advanced spelling basics including doubling the letter before adding an ending, and two syllable words. Peppered in throughout the units are homophones, a critical skill often neglected in traditional spelling programs.

Each unit includes:

  • The take home list with instructions of the word pattern for that week, along with what is not phonetic in yellow and red words
  • Worksheets to go over the words with the entire class at once
  • Shapes worksheet
  • Scrambled words worksheet
  • Word search worksheet
  • Cloze worksheet
  • Ideas on how to incorporate tactile methods each week for green, yellow, and red words
  • Songs are you may use to sing the yellow and red words
